I'm sure this has been discussed and I hope that I don't sound like a fool.  I have a Viking 1906ST and when I bought it, the battery was already installed and charged.  When I winterized it, I took out the battery and didn't label the cables (my first mistake).

About a week ago I set up the PUP and installed the battery.  I quickly realized that the cables are not the typical red (+) and black (-), mine are a thinner blue wire and a thicker white wire with a red plactic cap.  I assumed (second mistake) the white wire w/red cap was (+) and the blue was (-), so this is the way I hooked it up.  I did have the shore power hooked up for a night with the battery this way.  I unhooked the shore power and have not had the power hooked up after that.  Then today someone mentioned that I had it hooked up wrong (freak out time hit hard).

I quickly unhooked the battery and checked all the inside outlets and power (furnace, water pump, both electrical outlets, interior lights, etc...).  I did this while hooked up to shore power & without the battery installed and everything worked.  Didn't appear to be any damage to the converter.  I'm going to check the battery cables with a volt meter (to make sure I didn't damage the converter) and I'm going to have the deep cycle battery bench tested to make sure I didn't reverse the polarity.

Is there anything else I should be concerned about and which wires are the correct (+) and (-) for the colors that I have on my PUP (a thinner blue wire and a thicker white wire with a red plactic cap).

Replace the reverse polarity fuse on the converter. Blows when hooked up wrong to protect the converter.

What make/model is the converter?
White is negative.

I think we've all done that.  I learned that a label maker is my friend!

Thanks Rabird, I'll check and replace that fuse before I hook up the battery (correctly this time).  I have a WFCO (World Friendship Company LTD) 8700 series converter.  I also got good news when I had the battery bench tested, I didn't reverse the polarity or damage the battery & it's 78% charged right now and I have already labled the cables properly...

today I set up the PUP and looked at the fuses in the converter...

To my surprise the reverse polarity fuse did not blow.  I looked at the other 4 DC fuses and found one that did blow.  I replaced that fuse and hooked up the battery (correctly this time... ) and without shore power, I checked the inside and porch lights along with the vent fan and they all worked off the battery.

It dosen't look like I damaged the converter or anything else, being these items worked.  Is there anything else I should be concerned about or should I stop worring and get ready to enjoy my upcoming camping trip.

You didn't mention the Black wire??

Black is the postive wire. If you didn't connect that, you didn't complete the circuit and that's why you didn't blow the fuse.

Black wire and blue to positive terminal.
White wire to the Negative terminal.

Wavery, I don't have a black wire only a white and blue wire.  Just wondering why the reverse polarity fuse didn't blow (when I hooked the battery up backwards), but one of the four DC fuses did...  still scratching my head on that.  But like I posted earlier, all the lights and the vent fan all work off the battery now that I have it hooked up right.

Someone must have messed with your trailer wiring at some point in it's life. It's common for some owners to just put in a piece of wire and not be concerned about the color.

The proper battery wiring color code for your trailer is:
Black = positive
White = negative
Blue = brakes

I have read several posts where the positive wire from the converter to the battery was found to have an open circuit (faulty wire) and the owner replaced the wire. If all he had was a "Blue" piece of wire at the time, that could explain your issue.

If it were me, I would go to the back of the converter, and find where that wire is attached. If it's spliced into a black wire back there, you may be OK. Stuff like that just spooks me. I would cut out the blue wire (if that's the case) and re-splice a 10G marine grade, black wire back in. That way, I would no that it is done correctly and I (or a subsequent owner) would never have to be concerned about that again.

I'd worry 'bout wire gauge way before color!
I'm sure your converter will not have black wires coming out of it.
The 120v side does. The 12v side uses blue, white and red.
Additional circuits yellow, green, blue with strip, ...

Here are some pretty pictures

Someone could have changed that wire, but it would of had to of been done at the dealership being I bought it new in Sept. 09 (even though it's an 08).  As for there being three wires (I only have two, white and blue... no black) and the blue being for the brakes, I don't have electric brackes on this PUP (it was optional not standard on my PUP).

When I called the dealership about this, they told me that the white was negative and the blue is positive.  I have the battery hooked up with the blue on positive and the white on negative and everthing that is supose to run off the battery does.  I just can't figure out why the reverse polarity fuse didn't blow and the other fuse did.
